Aborigines originally from Africa

We all know the world used to be pretty much all connected. Australia to Africa. North America to South America, whatever. But new research now indicates that the Aborigines were originally from Africa, before they migrated to Australia, when subsequently the continents began to drift apart.

AUSTRALIAN Aborigines are descended from the same migration wave out of Africa that populated the rest of the world about 50,000 years ago, a new genetic study has revealed.

An analysis of DNA from Aborigines and Melanesians also shows Australians developed in relative isolation, dispelling theories about subsequent immigration from Asia.

"The Australian Aboriginal population, like the rest of the world, including Europeans and Asians, derived from the same, recent, out-of-Africa migration," said evolutionary geneticist and study co-author, Toomas Kivisild, of Cambridge University.

"So even though we might look more different from each other, we trace our genetic ancestry back to the same recent migration," Dr Kivisild said.
