Somebody get Bush out of office. Impeachment. Now.

President George W Bush has vetoed legislation to pull US troops out of Iraq in a showdown with Congress over whether the unpopular and costly war should end or escalate.
In only the second veto of his presidency, Bush today rejected legislation that would have required the first US combat troops to be withdrawn from Iraq by October 1 with a goal of a complete pullout six months later.
He vetoed the bill immediately on his return to the White House from a visit to MacDill Air Force Base in Florida, headquarters of US Central Command, which oversees military operations in Iraq and the rest of the Middle East.
Well, yeah, we cant just pull out. This isnt just a 'political showdown'. This is about ensuring our future safety, ensuring a lot of things. We went over there because they attacked us. We fought to get rid of our threat. We fought to help the majority of the people living there, I mean, terrorists are strapping bombs to children for suicide missions.. They are in there own civil war. In the meantime we need to extinguish the various terrorist groups to prevent future attacks. Those terrorist groups want us dead because we dont believe in Allah!
ReplyDeleteAgreed, but frankly, the end does not justify the means. The Bush government had no authority or reason for invading Iraq in the first place. Why Australian troops are there? Beats the hell outta me.

ReplyDeleteThey said that they had to take action to protect the world against terrorism blah blah blah. But in many cases it's because of the whole 'americanisation' and 'westernalisation' of places in the middle east that promote certain anti-american behaviour. Maybe if they just backed off, things would be different - but no, everywhere you go there's some presence of 'America' (for instance Maccas). And yes they were taking proactive measures to protect their people, but it surprises me that when it comes to other issus, such as the environment, they don't. Why isn't anything 'proactive' being done here? They should be consistant in their decision-making. America's just going through a power-trip.

ReplyDeleteI understand your point about the environment too. America spends $8 Billion a week on the Iraq war. Can you believe that? $8 billion. And apparently it takes barely that to rid the world of global warming. I wonder where the priorities lie...
Maybe I wasn't clear, but it's the whole idea of how America wants the whole world to have something that's American. Certain people in countries like Iraq, where a lot of 'terrorist' are, feel as though they are losing their roots/culture to big industries and becoming just another western country.

Iraq reduced US troop numbers in Afganistan where the real war against nuts who claim to kill US civilians in the name of Allah was slowly being won. In addition it was assumed the Iraqi civilians (all 3 factions) would capitulate when the Iraqi military was destroyed. Both dumb and good for creating controversy.
