Apparently female ducks have evolved with measures that prevent male ducks from raping them. Seriously.

Some female ducks and geese have evolved complex genitalia to thwart unwelcome mating attempts, according to a new study.
Males of some species, such as mallard, have a notorious habit of "raping" females. They and other wildfowl are among the 3% of bird species whose males have phalluses big enough to insert into the vaginas of females, whether or not the female consents.
Now, in the most detailed analysis yet of duck and goose vaginas, researchers have established that females of these species have evolved vaginal features to thwart unwelcome males.

Scientists have discovered a new planet which is not unlike our own planet Earth. So how far away is it?

According to the latest scientific data, this new planet is approximately 14.7 million billion trillion bazillion light years away from our solar system. To put this vast distance into layman's terms that everybody can understand, if you were able to ride on a wave of light, the time it would take you to reach this planet would be slightly less than the time it takes to get a straight answer from a bank.
I don't know about you, but that's pretty far away. The Age's article talks pretty much about how other aliens might just be too scary for us. Do we really want to meet them? They could be the end of us. And the most interesting part of it all, is that they probably think the same about us, which is probably why we might not have seen any Alien life come visit us as of yet.

Now this is something we need more of in Australia. We could put all that barren land out in Western Australia and the Northern Territory to good use. Imagine using the deserts to power the whole of Australia. Imagine that.

Bush Rejects Congress's bill to withdraw troops

President George W Bush has vetoed legislation to pull US troops out of Iraq in a showdown with Congress over whether the unpopular and costly war should end or escalate.
In only the second veto of his presidency, Bush today rejected legislation that would have required the first US combat troops to be withdrawn from Iraq by October 1 with a goal of a complete pullout six months later.
He vetoed the bill immediately on his return to the White House from a visit to MacDill Air Force Base in Florida, headquarters of US Central Command, which oversees military operations in Iraq and the rest of the Middle East.
