China Spurns Olympic Critics

(BEIJING)—In a blast of harsh rhetoric, China lashed out Thursday at the Dalai Lama and critics of Beijing's support for Sudan, saying attempts to link political issues to the Beijing Summer Olympics betrayed the spirit of the games.

Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Jiang Yu said China could "definitely not accept" rights groups that say China's support for Sudan's government is prolonging the humanitarian crisis in Darfur.

"To link the Darfur issue to the Olympics is a move to politicize the Olympics and this is inconsistent with the Olympics spirit and will bear no fruit," Jiang told reporters at a news conference.

She also attacked the Dalai Lama as a religious phony seeking to split China, a response to the exiled Tibetan leader's reported support for peaceful protests during the Olympics.

Beijing's tough approach illustrates its extreme sensitivity toward anything that might tarnish its staging of the Aug. 8-24 Olympic Games. Beijing has invested billions of dollars and national prestige in what it hopes will be a glorious showcase of China's rapid development from impoverished agrarian nation to rising industrial power.

Superhero mega movie on hold

megan

IT'S a case of "up, up and not away!" for Justice League of America, with production of the superhero flick now on hold for at least three months.

George Miller's mega-movie, which was due to be shot at Moore Park's Fox Studios, has become the latest victim of the US writer's strike.

Many in the cast and crew were given a week's notice on Wednesday but others, including DJs darling Megan Gale who was expected to play Wonder Woman, were still in the dark yesterday.

December Boys star Teresa Palmer and The OC's Adam Brody were also slated to star in the flick.

The film's producer, Barry Osborne declined to talk about the delay when contacted by Confidential yesterday.

"We have so much to sort out," a staff member from the film's production office said.

"We don't want to make a comment until our crew know what's going on."

Bully Denzel Washington

Denzel Washington

Denzel Washington bullies his daughters' boyfriends.

The 'Training Day' actor is so protective of 20-year-old Katia and 16-year-old Olivia he does anything he can to deter prospective suitors.

He said: "My oldest girl has got a boyfriend, who is at the school where she is. He is obviously very bright, but has too many earrings for my liking. I told him, 'I'm not going be that friendly with you.'

"I put my oldest boy on him - to put the fear of God into him. I said, 'Kick him around a bit. Tenderise him. I'll finish him off.' "

Denzel also admits he struggles to be as strict with his sons, 24-year-old John and 16-year-old Malcolm, as he is with is daughters.

Woman, 33, poses as boy, 13

A nationwide search for a missing 13-year-old Czech boy exposed a bizarre case of identity theft in which a 33-year-old woman spent four months posing as a schoolboy in Norway, police said.

Barbora Skrlova had been hiding from Czech authorities to avoid giving testimony in a 2007 child abuse case, Czech police said.

She was deported back to the Czech Republic and detained after months of fooling teachers, childcare workers and police in Norway by passing herself off as a boy named "Adam", Czech police spokeswoman Andrea Prochazkova said.

A woman who supplied a Czech passport enrolled her son "Adam" at the Marienlyst school near Oslo last September, authorities said.

Adam was actually the 160 centimetre-tall Skrlova, her breasts bound and head shaved, authorities said.

School authorities said they did notice Adam's strange behaviour.
